India Permits U.S. Pork Imports for the First Time

Successful negotiations two decades in the making.

U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced last week that the country of India would be allowing imports of U.S. pork and pork products, which had never previously been permitted. This agreement follows the reconvening of the U.S.-India Trade Policy Forum in November 2021, both of which are significant developments in U.S.-India trade relations.

“This new opportunity marks the culmination of nearly two decades of work to gain market access for U.S. pork to India – and it signals positive movement in U.S.-India trade relations,” said Secretary Vilsack. “We will continue working with the Indian government to ensure that the U.S. pork industry can begin shipping its high-quality products to consumers as soon as possible.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Vilsack as he oversees this new line of imports.
  • That Trade Representative Tai would follow God’s leading in her role.
  • That the relationship between the U.S. and India would be strengthened with this development.
